Bart Bakker’s FabSladda : how to accelarate creativity and ingenuity with a help of a pop up makerspace

An experienced Mini Fab Labs maker Bart Bakker will visit Vilnius Mini Maker Faire for the second time! Here he will present his DIY urban makercart, a pop up makerspace FabSladda.

Easily transportable Fab Lab

FabSladda is a pop-up fablab/makerspace. Made from IKEA’s SLADDA bike trailer, it involves basic fab lab machines -  lasercutter, vinyl cutter, 3D printer, electronics workbench and, optionally, a CNC mill. The intention upon this project was to create a FabLab which could be taken to the class, not the other way around.

Bart’s Urban Makercart is easily transportable (connected to a bike), quickly unfoldable, replicable and open source. FabsSladda was created without any drilling or modifying: it was designed an add-on, using the SLADDA’s attachment points.  All the materials needed costed around 250 Eur including the bike-trailer. A pop up fablab was created in a way so that it could pass through any 80 cm wide standart door, therefore, reach any rooms where a temporary makerspace is needed, such as classes, libraries, community centres, other institutions, organizations, events.
